Abstract
The guiding of light at 1.5 μm wavelength in straight and 90°-bent line-defect waveguides in rod-photonic crystal (PC) slabs was investigated. It was observed that the propagation loss of straight waveguide was small to that of a hole-PC-slab waveguide. Transmittance was decreased with an extinction ratio of 6 dB for the TE-polarization input light. The computational results show the measure of propagation loss for a 1.8-mm-straight waveguide to be 4.8 dB/mm.
