N1 - Funding Information: The 31st Japanese Society for Synchrotron Radiation Research Annual Meeting and Synchrotron Radiation Science Symposium (JSR2018) was held in Tsukuba, Japan, from January 8 (Monday) to 10 (Wednesday), 2018. It is the biggest and most influential domestic conference on synchrotron science in Japan and has provided opportunities for scientists and engineers to exchange cutting-edge innovative ideas on accelerators, beamline instruments, X-ray optics, and their academic and industrial applications. JSR2018 was co-organized by the Japanese Society for Synchrotron Radiation Research (JSSRR) and 27 domestic organizations, sponsored by 79 companies with 82 exhibition booths and three luncheon seminars. A total of 667 participants attended the three-day conference. In addition to nine invited talks and 369 (118 oral and 251 poster) presentations, there was a special lecture by Jerome Hastings (SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory), a commemorative session in honor of the thirtieth anniversary of the JSSRR founding, a memorial award lecture for the first winner of the JSSRR Synchrotron Science Award by Hideo Kitamura (Honorary Scientist of RIKEN), two award lectures for the winners of the JSSRR Young Scientist Award, and four specially focused sessions. During the conference, an open symposium for the public, four meetings for user communities (including a potential user meeting of Synchrotron Light in Tohoku, Japan (SLiT-J)), and the 2018 annual general meeting of the JSSRR were held.
