Abstract
Li2B4O7 single crystals of 2 to 2.5 inch diameter were grown by Czochralski method and were evaluated regarding the application of the nonlinear crystal Li2B4O7 for ultraviolet frequency-conversion including the fifth harmonic generation of a Nd:YAG laser. The crystals demonstrated type I phase-matching and shortest second harmonic generation wavelengths of 243.8 nm for 90° phase matched angle (PMA) and 348.7 nm for 45° PMA, making them quite feasible for ultraviolet frequency conversion. The fifth harmonic of Nd:YAG laser was demonstrated with 0.7 W average power.
