Abstract

This paper describes a frequency band extension method using side information for narrowband speech coded using G.711 codec. The proposed method is based on a band extension method proposed by Kataoka et al., which uses 600 bit/s for conveying side information for band extension. One drawback of Kataoka's method is its computational cost. As we have been developed a data hiding method that enables as much as 2000 bit/s as a payload of side information, we developed a band extension method with low computational cost that uses 1125 bit/s of side information. Our method exploits scalar quantization for reducing computational cost. As a result, we obtained 3.27 MOS value using the proposed method.
