Abstract

Carbon-encapsulating metallofullerenes: A C2 molecule is entrapped in the pentagonal-dodecahedral charge density of Y2 in Y2C2@C82(III) according to the maximum entropy/Rietveld analysis of the synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction data, which clearly show an additional charge-density peak for C2 (blue) inside the pentagonal-dodecahedral Y2 cage (red) in Y 2C2@C82(III) (picture, left) but not in Y 2@C82(III) (right).
