Abstract

We describe an agent-based design of multimedia processing software component in the Flexible Network Layer (FNL). In FNL, Middleware Service Unit (MSU) provides multimedia communication services for applications by combination of components for processing various multimedia data. In MSU, it is required to construct/reconstruct the necessary and sufficient functions of multimedia data processing dynamically, considering the QoS, user requirements, resource statuses, and characteristics of the media data. In this paper we propose an architecture of a Media Element Agent (MEA) to fulfill the requirement. The MEA consists of multimedia processing component and knowledge of designer developer and user of the component. We also show a scheme of multiagent-based construction of MSU with organized behavior of the agents.
