Abstract

A new dodecapeptide, designated BAM-12P, which released an N-terminal [Arg6]-Met-enkephalin by trypsinization, has been isolated from bovine adrenal medulla in a pure state by the aid of a newly developed radioimmunoassay utilizing antiserum against [Arg6]-Leu-enkephalin, which shows 5% cross-reactivity with [Arg6]-Met-enkephalin. Amino acid sequence of the peptide has been established to be: Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Met-Arg-Arg-Val-Gly-Arg-Pro-Glu. On the basis of its structure, the dodecapeptide is considered to be a novel pro-Met-enkephalin, unrelated to β-lipotropin.
