Abstract

A new low power and wide-viewing angle OCB-LCD compensated with A-plate and C-plate was developed to improve the difficulty of the manufacturing of transflective LCD compensated with discotic liquid crystal films. We clarified that wide viewing angle range over 160° was achieved by optimizing the arrangement of A- and C-plates and design parameters of the LCD. In addition, we found that the new LCD could be more easily produced because the tolerance of the compensation film thickness exceeded ±3%.
