Abstract
A new transflective LCD using an OCB-mode LCD compensated with hybrid-aligned discotic liquid crystal films and C-plates was designed to improve response time and viewing-angle of transflective displays. We verified that a wide viewing-angle exceeding ±80° (CR> 10:1) and high contrast ratio over 500:1 could be achieved in both reflective and transmissive parts by using optimum design parameters of compensation films.
