Abstract

In order to alleviate the absorption of human body and to improve the radiation efficiency of the antenna, a new type of built-in PIFA (Planar Inverted F Antenna) using a parasitic conducting plate on the back of the ground plane is proposed for portable telephones. Furthermore the characteristics of this new type of PIFA including the input impedance, near-field distribution and efficiency are studied by FDTD algorithm. The results exhibit that this new type PIFA is useful to reduce the absorption by human body and enhance the efficiency of the antenna. From the numerical results, it is known that only when a parasitic patch is equal to or larger than the ground-plane of PIFA, the radiation power absorbed by the human body will be decreased.
