N2 - A functional region consists of several geographical units that are functionally integrated by spatial interaction. It is delineated based on spatial interaction such as transportation, commuting, migration and so on. A lot of delineation methods have been developed since 1960s. However, there is no agreement on the criteria to assess the validity of delineation result. In this study, we focus on the similarity between the delineation of functional regions and finding a community structure in a network. We propose an assessment method of the validity of delineation result employing a robustness approach proposed to assess the significance of community structure in a network [Karrer, B., Levina, E. and Newman, M.E.J., 2008. Robustness of community structure in networks, Physical Review E, 046119.]. The results of case study show that our method can select one or a few valid delineation results from the masses of results.
