N2 - A single-pole-type head design for 400 Gb/in2 based on finite-element method (FEM) simulations is presented. The conditions required to generate a sufficient field for this areal density are shown. To reach this density various media were considered and written track widths, erase bands, signal-to-noise ratios, and written bit patterns were derived from Laudau-Lifshitz-Gilbert (LLG) simulations.
