N2 - The effect of a shape accuracy is investigated in rockfall simulation using DEM. A simple model test of rockfall were carried out. Because rockfall behaves non-linearly, enough number of trials was considered in the model test, and distributions of running distance and elevation angle are obtained from the experimental results. Then DEM simulations were carried out to reproduce the model test. In the simulation, some kinds of rockfall models with different shape accuracy were used. By comparing the experimental results and simulated results, a relation between the shape accuracy and the modeling error was discussed. Based on the obtained results, it was found that there is a possibility to define criteria of shape accuracy for allowable modeling error quantitatively.
