Abstract

In this study, a survey was carried out among residents at neighborhood associations in Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, to examine evacuation behaviors of the residents at the time of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. The results indicated that; (1) household either with a single person, with family with small children, or living in an apartment building tend to evacuate; (2) While households living in a single-family house evacuated due to, fear of earthquake shaking, households living in an apartment building took evacuation because of the scatted room conditions and building damage.
