A System for Estimating Optimal Resected Liver Regions Considering Practical Surgical Constraints

Abstract

Estimating resected regions is an essential task in preoperative planning for liver surgery. Using the 3D-image, surgeons decide the resected regions manually according to their experiences. This task is not easy for human since liver has complex vessel structure. To solve this problem, this paper presents a system to automatically find the optimal resected region under the surgical practical conditions such as the maximum resected volume. The evaluation results demonstrate that the proposed system can the results better than or equal to those of surgeons in practical computational time.
