N1 - Funding Information:
The authors are grateful to Drs. John Agren, Bo Sundman and Jan-Olof Andersson for their useful advice and help during the assessment. Thanks are also due to Miss Karin Frisk, Mrs. Weiming Huang and Mr. Bengt Hallstedt, and the other members of the Thermo-Calc group at Royal Institute of Technology for valuable discussions. This work has been financially supported by the Swedish National Board for Technical Development. One the authors (H.0) thanks Professor Taiji Nishizawa at Tohoku University and Japan-Sweden Foundation for their kindly giving the opportunity of working under this project.

N2 - A thermodynamic analysis of phase equilibria in the Ti-N binary system has been carried out. The thermodynamic parameters for each phase were evaluated on the basis of the available experimental data, by using thermodynamic models for the Gibbs energy. Most of the experimental information was well reproduced by the present set of thermodynamic descriptions. Especially, the melting behavior of titanium mononitride (γ phase) was clarified in the present assessment.
