title = "Active target-detector with scintillating fibers for hyperon-proton scattering",
abstract = "An active target with scintillating fibers has been developed and constructed. This target-detector is designed for measurements of hyperon-proton scattering for hyperon momenta of several hundred MeV/c. The detector serves as a production target of hyperons as well as a hyperon scattering target on hydrogen. It works as a 4π-detector for the production, scattering, and decay of charged particles in the target region. A spectrometer system for an incident beam and outgoing particles is linked with this target-detector in order to produce triggers for the imaging device. Reactions inside the fiducial volume of the detector are reconstructed kinematically by using image data together with spectrometer information.",

note = "Funding Information: We wish to thank Mr. O. Shinji of KURARAY Co. Ltd for offering valuable information and many samples of scintillating fibers. The design and assembling of the II chain was expedited by the suggestions of Dr. J.-P. Fabre and Dr. H.T. Wong at CERN. We express our appreciation to Professor K. Niwa and Dr. O. Sato at Nagoya University for their help with the measurement of the decay time of PS-5. The dedication and support of many of the KEK staff during this development are very much appreciated. We would like to thank Professors H. Sugawara, S. Yamada, K. Nakamura, T. Ohshima, J. Chiba, and Y. Yoshimura for their continuous encouragement throughout this work. We also thank the KEK accelerator crew and the beam channel group members for their continuous tuning and the stable operation of the machines. This work was supported partially by Grants-in Aid for Scientific Research no. 06640425 of Japan Ministry of the Education, Science and Culture.",
