Abstract
The adsorption of propylene carbonate (PC) on the surface of the LiCoO 2 thin-film, one of the important cathode materials used in the lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery, has been investigated by in situ sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy. Two adsorption modes of PC molecules with opposite orientation geometries on the LiCoO2 surface have been observed. The adsorption structures of PC are affected by the solvation process of the Li+ ion.
