Abstract

Herein we studied metal ion adsorption in aqueous solution by Zn[sbnd]Al layered double hydroxides (Zn[sbnd]Al LDH) modified with carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin (CM-β-CD) ions (CM-β-CD•Zn-Al LDH). In single-ion solutions containing Li+, Nd3+, or Pb2+, CM-β-CD•Zn-Al LDH adsorbed Nd3+ and Pb2+ but adsorbed very little Li+. Maximum adsorption followed the order Pb2+ > Nd3+ > Li+. In a mixed solution containing Li+, Nd3+, Ni2+, Cu2+, and Pb2+, the adsorption rate followed the order Cu2+ ≫ Pb2+ > Nd3+ > Ni2+ > Li+.
