Abstract

Measurement of wake vortices has been conducted at Sendai airport in Japan since April 2006. The measurements were obtained from 620 departures using a Doppler lidar, where measured aircrafts were Boeing 767, Airbus 320, Boeing 737 and MD-81. The collected measurements were classified by weather conditions such as a wind direction and wind strength to construct an advection database of wake vortices at Sendai airport. In this paper, a detection algorithm of wake vortices which was used to process all the lidar measurements automatically is firstly described. Then, details of the advection database are presented. Representative results from the advection database are shown in terms of a wind direction, a wind strength and static stability, which were dominant factors to affect the advection of wake vortices.
