Abstract
Different variety of biological cell fusion techniques have been developed and are used for basic research and applications in biotechnology and life science. However, whole cell damage associated with these techniques is unavoidable. This paper introduces an alternative technique, the laser-induced fusion scheme which realizes a one-to-one fusion of desired cells in an enclosed and safe chamber, with cell damage limited to small region irradiated by the laser pulse. As a further advancement of this technique, an experimental was conducted and results achieved an all-optical, high-efficiency cell by combining the noncontact and nondestructive optical trapping and manipulation with laser-induced microprocessing for fusion.
