Abstract
Variation in the magnetization curve of amorphous Tb-Fe films prepared by the flash evaporation method while the substrate temperature is varied was studied to clarify the mechanism responsible for perpendicular anisotropy and high coercivity. It was found that a film prepared at a 473 K substrate temperature was a typical perpendicular magnetization film, but in a film prepared at a 77 K substrate temperature, the coercivity and remanence of the hysteresis loop measured in the in-plane direction were both high, suggesting that anisotropy occurs in the in-plane direction.
