Abstract

Angle-resolved ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (ARUPS) was carried out on the stage-1 potassium-graphite intercalation compound C8K for the first time. Some valence π- and σ-bands have been identified experimentally in the ARUPS spectra as well as a high density of unoccupied states at about 6.0 eV above EF. The sharp peak at EF in UPS spectra, which has been ascribed to the potassium 4s state, was found to be largely of graphite origin. The experimental results were compared with some theoretical band calculations presented so far.
