Abstract

This paper proposes a transmission type filter that combines a high-quality fiber Bragg grating, fabricated by a scanning ultraviolet irradiation method, with an optical circulator. Improvements in wavelength selectivity and wide-banding are discussed. Spectral filtering is actually applied to the gain switched pulse from the semiconductor laser and the very short pulse from the mode-locked fiber laser. A short pulse close to the transform limit is generated.
