Abstract
The application of scanning acoustic microscopy (SAM) for assessing stress distribution in atherosclerotic plaque was presented. The sound speed distribution in the coronary arterial wall was observed to correspond to the elasticity distribution. The SAM image in the morphologic atherosclerotic lesion demonstrated that variations of elasticity were found within the fibrous cap and the value was higher than that found in the normal intima.
