Abstract
The Letter proposes combining baseband-processing feedforward carrier frequency drift compensation (baseband feedforward FDC) with synchronisation word (SW) detection to realise burst DPSK signal reception with differential detection. Crosscorrelation between the differential detector output and the known SW pattern, both in complex representation, is taken both for SW detection and for estimating the phase rotation which appears on the detector output due to carrier frequency drift. The estimate is used to cancel the phase rotation before symbol decision. Computer simulation results of the bit error rate performance of the proposed baseband feedforward FDC are presented for burst π/4-shift QDPSK signal reception in a Rayleigh fading channel.
