Abstract

We synthesized a new type of antiferroelectric and ferroelectric liquid-crystalline molecules with double stereogenic centers based on the binaphthol-titanium complex-catalyzed fluoralene reaction with vinyl sulfides. Furthermore, we experimentally showed the importance of the diastereomer effect for the appearance of the antiferroelectric SmCA* phase.
