N2 - We present our study of Calamaro: a robotic platform designed to investigate the impact of emotive motion on people, and its deployment in an extensive field study in a busy public space at the University of Calgary campus. Our paper details the design of the Calamaro robot, the field study conducted with it, including hundreds of observers and 88 participants, and our quantitative and qualitative findings. The paper provides a thorough discussion of the implications of our results on the design of robotic emotive motions, and reflections on the deployment of robotic interfaces in field studies.
