Abstract

This paper presents a method for calculating eddy current loss in a permanent magnet (PM) of a surface permanent magnet (SPM) motor based on electric and magnetic networks. First, a reluctance network analysis (RNA) model of the SPM motor and coupling between the RNA model and electric network model are described. To take account of the carrier harmonics caused by PWM switching, input current waveforms are calculated by a motor drive circuit. Then, the eddy current loss in the magnet and iron loss in the stator core of the SPM motor including carrier harmonics are calculated by the proposed model.
