Calibration of the effective analyzing power for a 3He polarimeter at 443 MeV

Abstract

The effective analyzing power for a 3He polarimeter was calibrated at E3He = 443 MeV. For the calibration, the absolute magnitude of the polarization was determined by means of the double scattering method using the 3He scattering on 12C at 7° in the laboratory frame. The effective analyzing power of Ayeff = 0.232±0.010-0.015+0.017 was obtained for the polarimeter with a plastic scintillator of 16 mm thickness as analyzer. The energy dependence of Ayeff was measured. The first data of the induced polarization for 3He+12C elastic scattering at E3He = 443 MeV will be presented.
