Abstract

A technique to measure the carrier linewidth of pulse sources is newly proposed based on the optical heterodyne method. The carrier linewidths of two pulse sources; a gain-switched DFB-LD (GS pulse source) and a sinusoidally driven monolithically integrated MQW-DFB-LD/MQW-EA modulator (EA pulse source) are measured. The respective measured carrier linewidths, 250MHz and 4MHz, reflect the different pulse formation processes.
