Chaotic neuro-computer prototype for quadratic assignment problems

Effectiveness of chaotic search dynamics on solving combinatorial optimization problems including the quadratic assignment problem (QAP) has been shown with numerical simulations with chaotic neural networks. The powerful searching ability of the chaotic neuro-dynamics comes from complexity in real number. Therefore, it is essential to implement the chaotic search dynamics with devices that can handle real numbers such as analog electrical circuits. In this paper, we construct a chaotic neuro-computer system consisting of 100 switched-capacitor (SC) chaotic neuron circuits connected via 10000 digital synapse circuits. We solve the QAPs with the prototype neuro-computer hardware system. As a result, we verify good performance of the analog massively parallel processing with chaotic neuro-dynamics in solving the QAPs.
