Abstract
Hard disk drives (HDDs) have played an important role to store a huge amount of data in storage clusters of data centers. In order to support the recent fast growth of data and highly dense accesses from clients in hyperscale applications, the effective ecosystem to integrate high capacity HDDs and short latency devices is required. In this paper, an analysis with application driven measure access latency is applied to a variety of storage devices. An intrinsic write time of storage devices as well as the effective combination of short latency memory devices and capacity optimized storage drives is studied. It is recognized that a key-value store will be an effective way to store data set of key and value vertically through storage tiers to realize quick response to a combined storage structure with HDDs and solid-state devices.
