Abstract
The effect of shapes and arrangement of pores on the coke strength is numerically investigated using a homogenization method. The stress analysis is carried out for two cases. In case1, the round pores with the same diameters are regularly arranged in the coke. In case2, irregular shape pores are randomly arranged. In case1, it is shown that the pore diameters and the number of pores have little influence on the stress distribution under equal porosity conditions. In case2, the stress is larger than that in case1. This is because that stress concentration occurs at the sharp edges of pores. The circular pores relaxes the stress in the coke, and the decrease in rigidity of the coke is hardly observed.
