Abstract
After the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, the Indonesian Government set disaster reduction facilities in the most damaged province, Aceh. Among them, tsunami escape building is especially important for residents living nearby coast. However it seems that those buildings are differently used from the intentional usage with the passage of time. This paper compares those present usage and the characteristics of tsunami escape buildings in Aceh based on the author's field survey conducted in February 2012. The points of view are (1) elevation, (2) location, (3) building function, (4) present usage, and (5) access to the roof.
