Abstract

We propose to use Electric Double Layer Capacitor (EDLC) as an emergency power source of totally implantable medical device. So far chemical batteries are considered such as Ni-MH battery and Li- ion battery as the power source. EDLC needs no control circuit to protect excess charge and discharge. Furthermore, EDLC can be cycled many times. In these points, EDLC is superior to the batteries.
