Abstract
Slurries of silica gel, calcium hydroxide and γ-alumina containing potassium hydroxide solution as solvent were reacted hydrothermally to control the substitution of hydrogrossular. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that hydrogrossular prepared using potassium hydroxide solution has a chemical composition in the miscibility gap. The chemical composition of the hydrogrossular influenced the morphology. These results were in agreement with the Wulff shapes obtained from first-principle simulations. The hydrogrossular morphology affected the surface potential.
