Abstract

Page 895-896. We found an error in the calculation of the reduction rates per surface area. The values listed in the text (page 895, line 12 from the bottom, right column) and Figure 5 (page 896, right column) were incorrect because of an error {figure presented}. in the coefficient for the transformation of experimental H2-TPR data to the reduction rates per surface area. The original manuscript stated, "The reduction rates per surface area decreased in the order of β-MnO2 (174 H2 μmol h-1 m-2) > δ-MnO2 (161 H2 μmol h-1 m-2) > λ-MnO2 (95 H2 μmol h-1 m-2) > α-MnO2 (89 H2 μmol h-1 m-2) > γ-MnO2 (69 H2 μmol h-1 m-2) > e-MnO2 (23 H2 μmol h-1 m-2)." New reduction rates were carefully calculated, and the correct values are reported herein. Although these errors do not affect the main discussion and conclusion of the results, the reduction rates per surface area are important data for the characterization of the metal oxides. The authors sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. Consequently, the sentence should read as follows: "The reduction rates per surface area decreased in the order of β-MnO2 (4174 H2 μmol h-1 m-2) > d-MnO2 (3864 H2 μmol h-1 m-2) > λ-MnO2 (2267 H2 μmol h-1 m-2) > a-MnO2 (2139 H2 μmol h-1 m-2) > γ-MnO2 (1666 H2 μmol h-1 m-2) > e-MnO2 (556 H2 μmol h-1 m-2)." Page 896. It has also come to our attention that the scale of the x-axis of Figure 5 was incorrect. The corrected Figure 5 is provided herein.
