Abstract
The cryogenic characteristics of the THz-wave output were investigated. A 75-mm LiNbO3 crystal with an Si-prism coupler was set inside the cooling Dewar. The pump was Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. Mirrors M1 and M2 form interferometer for the idler wave, and the THz-wave output was detected by a 4 K Si bolometer. The results show that cryogenic cooling is very effective in achieving highly efficient generation of THz wave from LiNbO3 due to the decrease in absorption loss.
