Abstract

In high temperature superconductors, a low resistivity state is quite stable from a viewpoint of power application. When a low resistivity state instead of the superconductivity with zero resistance is concentrated on, a current-carrying limitation before thermal runaway has to be investigated for high temperature superconductors. We have examined the thermal runaway parameters related to the heat transfer coefficient and the matrix resistivity for Ag-sheathed Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 tape. The calculated parameters were evaluated in comparison with the experimental results obtained under the cryocooling condition.
