N2 - The failure process of GFRP cross-ply laminates (up to final failure) is studied. In situ observations of ply cracks during tensile tests are carried out to obtain the damage process of the cross-ply laminates. Based on these experimental results, we propose a numerical simulation to investigate the damage process. In the present model, a ply crack is expressed by the cohesive element. Consequently, the stress-strain relationship and the density of ply cracks are simulated by choosing the strength and the critical energy release rate of the cohesive element.
