N2 - We have studied the metamagnetic transition in the Van Vleck paramagnetic compound PrCu2. This transition brings about an interchange between the easy (a) and the hard (c) axes’ directions of the magnetization which is reflected in drastic changes of the magnetoresistance and the de Haas-van Alphen oscillation. The origin of this metamagnetic transition is ascribed to the switching of the direction of the quadrupole moment in the 4f levels.
