Deployment characteristics of multi-cellular inflatable tubes

Tensegrity structures with multi-cellular inflatable tubes are proposed to realize sequential deployment. To examine deployment characteristics, conceptual models of multi-cellular tube elements are demonstrated experimentally to investigate the deployment and folding properties. The results show that the multi-cellular tube elements deploy sequentially and straightly, and the deployment properties are determined by the inflation rate and the configuration of the multi-cellular inflatable tubes. Then, two tensegrity models are demonstrated; a tensegrity model with two-cellular tubes and the one with singlecellular tubes. Finally, the tensegrity model with the two-cellular tubes deploys more sequentially than that with the single-cellular tubes.
