Abstract

Design and development of the FERMI antenna as receiving element of PMMW imaging was discussed. The required characteristics of the antenna for the array were a circular radiation pattern to achieve the optimum coupling with a dielectric lens and narrow-width geometry to obtain a high resolution of imaging. FERMI antenna was obtained with the circular radiation beam pattern having the beam width of 52° and the geometrical width of 0.58λ0. Using the FDTD analysis, it was found that the beam width of the E-plane and H-plane of the FERMI antenna could be controlled by changing the width of the aperture and the position of the infection point of Fermi-Dirac taper profile.
