Abstract

To improve our ability to perform ion-beam analyses (IBA), we installed a new 1-MV 3SDH-2 tandem Pelletron accelerator at Tohoku University. It has two beam lines: a 15° line for heavy-ion-beam irradiation experiments and a 45° line for IBA experiments. For multimodal IBA experiments, we installed a newly designed and developed target chamber on the 45° beamline. We have since carried out a variety of fundamental and applied research projects using this facility. Here, we provide an overview of the facility, the target chamber developed for IBA, and some examples that involve the use of Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy, elastic-recoil detection analyses, particle-induced X-ray emission, and nuclear-reaction analysis techniques for specimens from different research fields.
