N2 - In order to increase the storage density of spent fuels, borated aluminum alloys and stainless steels are used for the structural materials for the fuel storage facilities, such as spent fuel racks in the fuel pools and spent fuel casks. Some amount of boron (B) is added to the alloys for absorbing the neutron. Addition of boron may affect the mechanical properties, especially the ductility, as well as the corrosion resistance and so on. Boron added aluminum alloys 2017, 3004, 6061, 7N01 and several stainless steels with different Ni/Cr balance were made and examined in this investigation.
