Abstract

CO2 spray coating system is a promising technique for VOC reduction in paint industry. Precipitation of polymer component in the systems has been pointed out as a problem since CO2 is a poor solvent for polymer solutions. In this work, a solvent selection guide for the CO2 spray coating system is proposed. The phase behavior and phase equilibria of polymer + solvent + CO2 systems are measured. Furthermore, relationship between solubility parameter of the solvent and the phase behavior was investigated.
