N2 - The Bepi Colombo mission to Mercury is a joint mission between ESA and JAXA that is scheduled for launch in 2013 and arrival at Mercury in 2019. A comprehensive set of ion sensors will be flown onboard the two Bepi Colombo probes which, in addition to electron sensors, will allow in-depth analysis of the charged particle environment of Mercury. We review some features of ion transport at Mercury, from their solar wind or exospheric source until injection into the inner magnetotail. We also briefly describe the various Bepi Colombo sensors dedicated to their analysis.
