Abstract

The authors studied the phosphorus distribution between liquid iron and MgO saturation CaO-MgO-FeO//x-SiO//2 slags containing 1 to 4% CaF//2 in the temperature range 1550 to 1650 degree C. The effect of CaF//2 on the equilibrium quotient was nearly equal to that of CaO on a weight percentage. The effect of CaF//2 on the activity coefficient of P//2O//5 was also studied by Turkdogan and Pearson's treatment. It was found from the plot of the activity coefficient of FeO vs. the mole fraction of SiO//2 that the activity of FeO increases with the addition of CaF//2.
