Abstract

We have investigated the effect of carbon on the adiabatic potential for the two-dimensional anharmonic vibration of oxygen in the carbon-oxygen complex in silicon, using norm-conserving pseudopotentials with the supercell method. We have found that the off-axis nature of the adiabatic potential for the isolated oxygen is weakened when the complex is formed. This explains the absence of the hot-band fine structure for the 1104 cm-1 oxygen line due to the carbon-oxygen complex.
